Within the 2021 “LUX:plorations” science comic series, together with PhD candidate colleagues from LIH, Catherine worked out a creative and original communication of local science. Their cartoon A Gut Feeling discusses the role of the gut microbiome in keeping the organ in good health and highlights the importance of a balanced diet to preserve this equilibrium. All cartoons originating from this series were promoted by the Doctoral Education in Science Communication (DESCOM) project of the University of Luxembourg. The “LUX:plorations” comics aim to connect art with science, as regional artists work together with young scientists to promote the local state-of-the-art research carried out in Luxembourg. “In my opinion, we need to fundamentally reimagine how we communicate science to the broad public. LUX:plorations allows to make science truly accessible to a young and dynamic public,” Catherine says.
